We’re named after the street where our founder grew up, because we want working with us to feel like coming home.
My dad was a baseball coach who ran his own automotive ad agency. I saw both the excitement of business and the reality of burnout. My mom, a former teacher, reinvented herself as a multi-time Wall Street Journal Top Realtor.
From her I learned you never let a blade of grass grow under your feet. Together, they taught me the lesson everything else is built on.
While other kids played, I was building. In kindergarten I printed my own money for our recess Super Bowl. In 4th grade a friend and I built a “Field of Dreams,” convinced that if we built it, the money would follow. In 5th grade I launched “Mac and Jab Enterprises” to sell jingles, and organized a golf tournament. When I wasn’t dreaming up ventures, I was shoveling snow, cutting grass, and washing cars. I wanted to work. To earn.
At 18 I took a sales job at Sears, joining a team where the average age was 45. Rejection suited me, and I thrived selling $400 vacuums at 15% commission. I learned that no matter how you make money, it demands relentless effort, so I wore a tie to high school every day.
I launched The Circle of Life IU Mini Marathon, the first collegiate-hosted half marathon to fund scholarships for cancer survivors. We scaled it into one of the largest races in the Midwest and landed in Runner’s World.
After graduation I joined the Corporate Executive Board, now Gartner, and learned the art of the cold call and the power of shared best practices among executives. That philosophy still anchors Wiltshire Ventures.
